What type of Linkedin user are you?

I've come across many different types of Linkedin users in my time, I’ll tell you about just a couple of them….
Firstly there are the ‘Spray and Pray’ bunch… “if I add as many connections as possible, take part in as many group discussions, I'll sit back and pray, hoping that someone will magically approach me to do business with them.”

Then there are the ‘I was told this was a good idea’ bunch – the ones that have been told by a colleague or business contact that Linkedin is the place to be. So they’ve gone about setting up an account, maybe added a profile picture and a few previous jobs, accepted some connections and been told it would be a good idea to join some groups. These lot have ticked the box of having an account but are really unsure what to do next.

Do you fall into either of these categories?

If you do, then you could be working SMARTer to achieve your sales/marketing/business objectives with just a few tweaks here and there.

Linkedin can be an extremely powerful tool if used correctly and can help you develop/grow your business

What if I told you that you could get access to your dream client? Or you could get better results from your offline networking activities? Or how about building a network of referral partners so that you don't have to keep knocking down the doors of people who no longer want to be sold to?

My 3 hour Linkedin workshop explores Linkedin and how to get the most out of it – we’ve all got a limited amount of time during the day and we all want access to our dream clients. I will show you how!

2012 is all about the C word!

I thought I'd share with you just one way I've made use of my social media platforms this week!

Over the holidays I reviewed my SWOT analysis to assess which direction I'd take my business in 2012 and I've spent the past week or so addressing some of the weaknesses and opportunities.

Being a Sole Trader has it's advantages but also many disadvantages so I've decided that this year COLLABORATION is going to be the key to success, allowing me to work with like minded people in similar fields and expand my business.

Social Media has been a great way to source these people, in particular Linkedin.  Using the filtered contact search to find people already within my network living in the marketing industry (& within the Swansea area) and also scoping out other Social Media specialists through the use of group discussions (and having a nose at their profiles and activity).

Another which was a pleasant surprise was a call I received from a Facebook friend of one of my Facebook fans.  The Facebook fan had commented on a discussion on my page, which in turn appeared in the ticker of all her Facebook friends, who just so happens to deliver Social Media training in West Wales and was looking for someone (like me) to build a referral partnership.

So, this goes to show that Social Media can be used for collaboration, something I think is vital for sole traders/small businesses like myself!

Take a few minutes out of your day to think who in your network you could collaborate with and arrange those all important face to face meetings!
